Solution for Buffing Dust in silencer assemblies opens new opportunities for the Client

A Tier 1 supplier to reputed two-wheeler brands in India faced an atypical issue due to buffing dust. The presence of buffing dust in its workshop was a bit of an eyesore, and something that was noticed by every visitor to the shop floor. The company wanted to grow its prospects further for other multinational clients and to change the poor impression due to presence of buffling dust called for changing the situation on the shop floor.

CHALLENGE

Buffing of silencer assemblies with chrome finish was a key process for the product. The buffing powder, in the form of SS and MS, chrome plated metal particles, abrasive sand, rubber, ended up settling all over the shopfloor premises. The company could not afford to lose reputation among its clients simply due to presence of dust in its buffing shop.

Concerns expressed by visiting clients about EHS compliance further underlined how dust negatively affected the reputation of the business.

SOLUTION AND BENEFITS

SFS suggested DC 14K C with localized suction hoods to confine the fine buffing dust. Spark arresters were added to the Dust Collector to prevent occurance of fire when using abrasive wheels.

SFS’s association with the client did not end with the sale. Engineers from SFS were involved in training the client company’s maintenance teams and backed up their efforts by providing regular monthly visits for six months. The continual support helped to ensure effective functioning of the Dust Collector and complete solution to the Client’s challenge.
