The client is a global leader in Rubber Grooved belts (Timer Belt) and counts almost all the top automakers in the world as its customers. The plant in Nagpur is one of the largest facilities to manufacture Timer Belt.
Challenge
- Mixing carbon powder with other ingredients releases high amounts of dust in the air
- The carbon dust is toxic and must be filtered and cleaned at its source
- The client was not satisfied with the results produced by its existing pocket filters provided by a few local suppliers and those imported from China
Approach
Given the high volumes of dust, it was advised to use high capacity Dust Collector. Effective filtration of high amounts of dust with presence of additives requires pre-separation to prevent the filter from choking frequently.
Solution
Two units of Dust Collectors with high suction capacity and larger cross-sectional area were designed
The larger cross section area reduced the rate of low of dust to be filtered and thus helped separate dust from additives
Pulsating air for the filter cartridge was maintained 25% higher as compared to normal dust to enable effective filtration
